Delay in Development

Currently there are very few development activities starting or changes being made that need to be examined to be sure that they conform to the Sandy Spring-Ashton Master Plan.  Development along Route 108 between New Hampshire Avenue is largely on hold until the intersection at Route 108 and New Hampshire Avenue is improved.  Currently the State of Maryland has no funds allocated for that project.

Olive Branch Community Church Proposal

April 27, 2011

The Olive Branch Community Church plans to build a 200 seat, 7,000 square foot sanctuary, and a 36 space asphalt parking lot, with access from Route 108, Olney-Sandy Spring Road.

The property is located at the south side of Route 108 near the intersection of Bentley Road, across from the Sandy Spring Museum. The sanctuary will be located between the rectory (the house currently on the property) and Sherwood High School.  A number of trees will need to be removed, but the trees between the school and the sanctuary will be kept.  The property is referred to in the Sandy Spring/Ashton Master Plan as the “Lansdale Property” ( page 23 ).

The plan and the notice of a pre-submission public meeting are available on the SSARPC web site.  The meeting will explain the proposed project and address concerns about the impact on the community.  It will be held on Monday, May 2 at 7:00 PM at:

Olive Branch Community Church Rectory (the former Lansdale House)
416 Olney-Sandy Spring Road (Route 108)
Sandy Spring, MD 20860

Questions may be addressed to Henry Boyd, Office of the Olive Branch Community Church, at (240) 389-1037.

The Montgomery County Planning Board will hold a public hearing on the application and the community will be encouraged to provide written and oral comments to the Planning Board.  We will notify you about the hearing once it has been scheduled.
